چکیده

There has accumulated a large amount of literature on confidence interval construction involving lognormal data owing to the fact that many data in scientific inquiries may be approximated by this distribution. Procedures have usually been developed in a piecemeal fashion for a single mean, a single mean with excessive zeros, a difference between two means, and a difference between two differences (net health benefit). As an alternative, we present a general approach for all these cases that requires only confidence limits available in introductory texts. Simulation results confirm the validity of this approach. Examples arising from health economics are used to exemplify the methodology. © 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Bayes Interval Estimation on the Parameters of the Weibull Distribution for Complete and Censored Tests

A method for constructing confidence intervals on parameters of a continuous probability distribution is developed in this paper. The objective is to present a model for an uncertainty represented by parameters of a probability density function.  As an application, confidence intervals for the two parameters of the Weibull distribution along with their joint confidence interval are derived. The...

A Method for Evaluating Exposure to Nitrous Oxides by Application of Lognormal Distribution

A Method for Evaluating Exposure to Nitrous Oxides by Application of Lognormal Distribution: S.S. BORJANOVIC, et al. Department of Work Physiology, Institute of Occupational Health “Dr Dragomir Karajovic”—A lognormal distribution adequately describes exposure to nitrous oxides in a work environment. The aim of this paper was to assign to the measured data a certain degree of variability which d...

3 M ay 2 01 4 Generalized inference for the common mean of several lognormal populations

A hypothesis testing and an interval estimation are studied for the common mean of several lognormal populations. Two methods are given based on the concept of generalized p-value and generalized confidence interval. These new methods are exact and can be used without restriction on sample sizes, number of populations, or difference hypotheses. A simulation study for coverage probability, size ...

Point and Interval Estimation for the Burr Type III Distribution

In this paper, we study the estimation problems for the Burr type III distribution based on a complete sample. The maximum likelihood method is used to derive the point estimators of the parameter. An exact confidence interval and an exact joint confidence region for the parameters are constructed. Two numerical examples with real data set and simulated data, are presented to illustrate the met...

Calculating Confidence Intervals for the Mean of a Lognormally Distributed Variable

Many physical, chemical, and biological properties of soils exhibit skewed distributions that can be approximated by the two-parameter lognormal distribution. Recent attention in the soils literature has focused on the best method of estimating the mean for lognormally distributed variables; however, little attention has been given to methods for constructing confidence intervals about the mean...
